I've said before that the food portions here (fast food at least) are considerably smaller than those in the US. And I've said that this is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's bad because there's hardly any food and I'm a fat American who eats with a shovel. It's good because it prompts me to have smaller servings and be a less-fat American. However, I've found another reason why it's a bad thing...
The laws of thermodynamics.
You see, larger things (such as large cups of soda) have a more significant volume to surface area ratio. Heat permeates (or dissipates, in the case of hot things) relatively slowly. These smaller items, however... They reach the equilibrium of room temperature much more rapidly.
For hot things, such as burgers and fries, I can slow the process by placing them next to my laptop where the vent blasts them with scorching hot Dell farts. For cold things, such as my soda, I'm afraid I'm simply out of options. Such a shame.
