Street Food

Today one of my colleagues in the Manila office asked if I'd like to join them to "go get some street food." Well, I like to think I'm pretty street. You know, being from Brockton and all. So what the heck. We went downstairs and outside to a street or two that I hadn't yet visited, and we ate here:

It was quite good, actually. At least, the thing I got was. It was some kind of cooked banana on a stick covered with brown sugar. Seriously, doesn't that sound awesome? And way better than those cooked banana things you get in friggin' Cuban restaurants.

One of the team members got some kind of quail egg... thing. It didn't look bad (not like that partially-formed bird in an egg thing they have here, this one was at least properly cooked poultry), so I may try it someday. His, however, was doused in vinegar. I explained to him that vinegar is the sauce of the devil.

See, my spouse's family likes to put vinegar on things. Lots of things. They descend from English and Scottish cuisine, I suppose. And I have had no luck in explaining to them that if you have to put vinegar on your food to make it better, then your food is terrible.

However, my colleague explained to me that sweet and sour sauce was another option. Now we're talking. Also, I noticed an Army-Navy store across the street. Sweet! I wonder what kind of cool Filipono Arm... wait a minute...

Ok, now I'm not so sure...
